#29. If I Were a Television Producer
So this guy Chris Brogan has come up with 100 things he’d like others to blog about. My husband already used one, so now it’s my turn. So I actually spent the early part of my career in film production and spent a great deal of time with foodies and food stylists. I did a bunch of Sonic commercials, a Denny’s, Popeye’s, Shoney’s and couple of others, and realized I like food TV.
So if I were a television producer, I’d do a food show or better yet a reality food show like Top Chef or Hell’s Kitchen. I can see it now - Emily’s Elimination Challenge - cook as many dishes as you can in 12 minutes out of ramen noodles, back beans and caramel. You’d get to use the spice rack, a canister of flour and bacon grease. Go!!!!
Another show might be “If I were Paula Dean” - pretty straight forward, it’s a remake of all of her recipes without butter - instead of my son’s being on show, I’d have the guy who played Vizzini come out and tumble the meat and vegetables in the CulinaryPrep, as part of the preparation process, in the same costume he used in The Princess Bride.

Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right… and who is dead.
Vizzini: But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You’ve made your decision then?
Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
Oh if I were a television producer indeed!
